47’ers Meet Again on 75th Anniversary

The 47ers met again this year on 21st July at their usual venue The Georgian Hotel in Friargate, Derby.   It was a remarkable meeting because it marked 75 years (three-quarters of a century!) since they first met as second formers in 1947.

Those attending from the left in the photograph were:
Viv Andrew, Brian Moult,  John Wilkinson, Dave White, Russ Jones, Eddie Hunt, Peter Smedley and Godfrey Webster.

It was a memorable meeting and we agreed to meet again in 2023.

Paul Logan began his teaching career in 1995 after leaving Price Waterhouse Coopers, where he trained as an accountant after graduating from Durham University.

After 13 years in the state sector he moved to independent education in 2007, as Head of Maths at Uppingham School. Recently he has been at Wisbech Grammar, an HMC day and boarding school in Cambridgeshire, first as Deputy Head Operations and then Deputy Head Academic for the last 3 years.

Mr Logan’s depth of experience, commitment to academic excellence and dynamism is underpinned by a passion and determination to continue to take the School forward.

Another highlight for Mr Logan in moving to the area is being able to further his passion for cycling, having recently qualifying for the Amateur World Road Race.

To all members of the society, I must convey my apologies for the lack of newsletters over the last 12 months. As a Health & Safety Consultant, I have been extremely busy of late during the pandemic and unfortunately, other work has taken a back step.

As we start to come out of lockdown I hope to be putting more time into the website and newsletters so that we can bring you the latest news from our society.
